Get Married!

There’s something about weddings we’ve never quite been able to figure out. And it’s not why everyone has that hefty fruit cake covered in yucky marzipan when all guests would clearly prefer a jam donut! No, it’s why sane, intelligent women (let’s face it, blokes have no say in this) meticulously plan every imaginable detail of their big day but leave arguably the most important thing in the lap of the gods – the weather!

You see, you can spend weeks choosing, and thousands paying for, your dream gown but it’s all for nothing if you ultimately squelch up to the altar looking like an otter emerging from a pond.

The reason is that when you lifted the train on your ivory Vera Wang out of the vintage cream Roll Royce Silver Ghost with leather seats and white roses tied to its handles, a giant cloud in charcoal grey that you certainly did not specify dumped 15 litres of water on your head. Seems God never got your memo about the colour-themed clouds!

So why take the chance that your ceremony might take place on the day when monsoon conditions hit your local churchyard. Why risk having to see your entire family standing beneath umbrellas wearing welly boots for eternity on your official pictures, when you can have them squinting into the blazing sun against backdrops like the dazzling blue Med or the Valletta skyline.

What we’re saying in our normal round-the-houses, clumsy fashion is why don’t you get married in Malta? It’s a no-brainer really -  and here are a few more reasons to back up our suggestion.

Firstly, if you organise it to take place during the summer then it will be hot and it will be sunny- guaranteed! Secondly, you’ll be on an island that specialises in the hospitality business - where there’s great food, fine local wines and excellent beers on tap. Thirdly, you don’t have to go anywhere for your honeymoon because everything you need for that is right here too!

We reckon Malta is an excellent place to tie the knot for all these reasons and also because it is serviced by a thriving, efficient and high quality wedding industry.

It’s an island that’s ideally geared up for making weddings extra special and memorable. For a start there are hundreds of churches, if you’re looking for a religious civil ceremony. If you chose to go down the ‘civil’ route though then there are any number of possible venues as well as a wide range of purpose-built reception halls to choose from.

If none of those takes your fancy then all of the big hotels on the island have well-established conferencing, catering and event facilities that are all hugely experienced in hosting perfect receptions.

Marriage companies in Malta cater for all tastes – so if you want classical music and vintage cars or rock and roll and limousines, it’s all here.

There’s a big choice of wedding gowns readily available from a variety of classy boutiques, and in case you didn’t know, this is an island with a long tradition of lace-making so you can find some very special dresses here. For the groom there are plenty of places to hire wedding suits too!

To remove all the headaches then why not go the whole hog and enlist the services of one of Malta's first class wedding planners?

But we’re not even finished yet! Choose Malta and you’ll be an instant hit with your family and friends because they have a perfect excuse to book an extra week or two in the sun. Bring a huge party with you and chances are you can negotiate some decent discounts on room rates in a hotel too.
