It is no over-statement to say that many regular tourists to Malta first discovered the island when attending a conference. Thousands of people every year come over on business and decide they need to return for a week or two on holiday and see the place properly.
We’ve all dreamed the Formula 1 dream, haven’t we? The one where it’s not Lewis Hamilton but you driving to a Grand Prix victory in a glamorous venue, taking the plaudits and spraying the crowd with Champagne. The reality is that it’s never going to happen - but you can experience the thrills and spills of high-speed racing on the kart track.
Driving in Malta has changed massively over past couple of decades, as the amount and standard of vehicles on the island has increased. Also experiencing massive upsurges has been the average speed and frequency of traffic jams, while available parking has plummeted. But do not be afraid, or put off, because in spite of all this, driving here is still fairly tame and the most efficient way of getting around.
A swift glance at a map of Malta will be enough for you to see that the majority of the major settlements are on the northern side or towards the middle of the island. You’ll see very little in the way of serious towns on the southern edge … and there’s a good reason for that – cliffs!
Three Cities! Now this one will confuse you! For a start, you’re probably looking at the title of this article and thinking ‘Three Cities! That’s a bit non-committal isn’t it?’
Towering majestically in the heart of Malta's premier tourist destination in the St.George's area, Bay Street is the vibrant, colourful and appealing leisure Complex that offers a multitude of services to shoppers and diners
If you love to lie around in the sun, take an occasional swim and sip on a cool drink then there are two ways to go in Malta. Firstly, you can hit the beach with everyone else. But if you have a morbid fear of sand, open water, seaweed or fish – or if you just like things a little more refined, then you should head for one of the many lidos.
Since Roman and medieval times, Malta has played temporary home to many famous literary names in history, from Cicero, Coleridge and Lord Byron to Desmond Morris and Nicholas Monsarrat. And then there was the country’s homegrown famous literary son, Edward de Bono – he of lateral thinking fame. All sought help from the inspirational island.
What time of year do you set off fireworks where you live? Time was when there was one set day of the year for lighting up the sky in most countries – Chinese New Year, Bastille Day in France, Independence Day in the USA and November 5 in the UK. Nowadays though, hardly a month goes by without someone lighting the blue touch paper and standing well back – Christmas, New Year, weddings, birthdays etc any excuse will do!
Alborada Holiday Apartments are situated in the heart of Sliema – one of Malta’s main tourist areas, which is serviced by all forms of transport (including buses to Malta main cities, such as the capital city of Valletta), and also hosts one of the largest and most popular shopping centres on the island. Sliema is also well-known for its many cafes and restaurants serving a wide variety of dishes, snacks and cuisines including Italian, Chinese, Russian and traditional Maltese.
