Learn to Fly

The air Battles of Britain and Malta during World War II are amongst the most exhilarating episodes in modern European history. They are replete with the heroics of small groups of brave young men who fought against all the odds - and won. Those were the days when skill still held the upper hand over technology. A visit to the museums commemorating the two battles is both an emotional experience and an invitation to fly.

And where better to take to the skies for the first time than in the crystal skies of Malta. Maltese flying clubs offer you the opportunity to gradually become a qualified air pilot. The natural beauty of the Maltese Islands, particularly Grand Harbour, has long been recorded in the annals of historians, writers, poets and painters from all over the world, all of whom had until then seen it as they approached it from the sea. There is a vastly different spectacle to be seen from the air. Small though they are, the Maltese Islands from the clear, blue sky can offer trouble-free flying and top-class air traffic control.

There are classes for beginners who receive training from experienced instructors on the latest private aeroplane models. Those already in possession of a flying licence will have no difficulty hiring an aircraft to roam the Central Mediterranean from a Maltese perspective. You can fly over the popular beaches and observe the geographical attractions of the three main islands - Malta, Gozo and Comino. But you can also plan flying trips to neighbouring Sicily and Tunisia, have lunch there and be back in Malta in time for your evening date.

Battles were never like this. Or were they?
